Planned Parenthood’s ‘heartlessness’ and ‘arrogance’
on full display in latest video

WASHINGTON – A fifth undercover video released today by The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) appears to show the director of research of one of the largest affiliates of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) casually discussing the harvesting and trafficking of body parts from unborn children killed by abortion, including the possibility of altering abortion methods "to obtain intact fetal cadavers." [transcript, page 76]

“The arrogance and coldness with which these Planned Parenthood executives talk about dismembering and pricing unborn children is truly atrocious,” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. “Another discussion, over lunch, of dismembering unborn children to harvest their body parts again demonstrates the callousness and heartlessness of Planned Parenthood toward unborn children,"

One segment contains footage reportedly filmed at Planned Parenthood of the Gulf Coast (PPGC) in Houston, showing a conversation between two investigators posing as representatives of an organ-vending firm, and a woman identified by CMP as Melissa Farrell, the clinic’s director of research.

In the video, Farrell says, “yeah, so if we alter our process, and we are able to obtain intact fetal cadavers, than we can make it part of the budget that any dissections are this, and splitting the specimens into different shipments is this . . . it’s all just a matter of line items.” [transcript, page 76]

Farrell describes one earlier potential buyer who wanted to purchase “Everything. CNS [central nervous system], brain, liver, thymus, kidney, spleen, femur, bone marrow, hemotopietic stem cells from 14 to 22 weeks.” [transcript, page 90.]

Near the end of the video segment, after carefully picking through the parts, someone holds up an arm of a 18-week abortion victim. The ambulatory surgical center director comments: "The other thing that plays a major part in this all, is the dilation . . . It depends on how cooperative the patient is during the procedure.” [transcript, page 102]

The series of videos from CMP highlight the need for legislation such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection and the Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion (both of which would greatly expand protections for unborn children from late abortions, and would curb some of the grisly practices portrayed in the CMP videos), and also the need to put a stop to Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding.

Yesterday, Senate Democrats blocked a measure (S. 1881) introduced by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), that would cut off federal funding of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its affiliates.

"We will not sit idly by as Planned Parenthood affiliates harvest and traffic baby body parts and the bodies of intact unborn babies, while hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars continue to line their coffers,” Tobias said.

Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest provider of abortions – about one-third of all abortions in the U.S. are performed at Planned Parenthood-affiliated facilities. According to their most recent annual report, Planned Parenthood received at least $528 million annually from the federal government or other levels of government.

“Abortion is big business for Planned Parenthood, and they shouldn't be receiving massive taxpayer subsidies to aid the expansion of their deadly empire,” Tobias said.

Founded in 1968, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation's oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, NRLC works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.
