New Video Continues to Expose Grisly Nature of Baby Body Part Trafficking

WASHINGTON – The Center for Medical Progress (CMP) today released another video in its series exposing the harvesting and trafficking of baby body parts, often involving affiliates of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the nation’s largest abortion provider. This eighth video shows Cate Dyer, chief executive officer of StemExpress LLC discussing the business end of baby body part “procurement.”

Over lunch with undercover investigators from the CMP, Dyer casually discusses her company’s role in the trafficking process, including admissions that the company gets “a lot” of intact fetuses and suggesting that “another 50 livers a week” would not be enough. In her conversation, Dyer indicates the value of Planned Parenthood as a partner, referring to them as a “high volume” operation. She also fully revealed the gruesome nature of her “business,” namely that clients who receive the trafficked baby body parts often don’t want to see the heads, hands, and feet of the unborn children – indicating that even for researchers, the sight of an unborn child’s head in a delivery box is too grisly.

“These videos continue to display the repulsive nature of Planned Parenthood harvesting and pricing of baby parts” said Carol Tobias, National Right to Life president. “Try as they might to downplay their role in the abortion industry, Planned Parenthood controls at least a third of the total abortion 'market.’”

A claim repeated like a mantra by Planned Parenthood, and uncritically transmitted by many journalists, is that abortion makes up “only 3%” of Planned Parenthood’s “services.” But Planned Parenthood counts everything given to, or done to, a given patient as a separate “service.” For example: every pregnant woman who enters a Planned Parenthood clinic for an abortion, may also have a pregnancy test, STD screening, and may receive birth control pills. Each of these counts as a “service;” thus, a woman who walks in for an abortion receives not one, but four “services.” (This doesn’t include other “services” that may be required for the abortion itself.)

Planned Parenthood is the nation's largest provider of abortions – at least one-third of all abortions in the U.S. are performed at Planned Parenthood-affiliated facilities. According to their most recent annual report, Planned Parenthood received at least $528 million annually from the federal government or other levels of government.

Slate Senior Editor Rachel Larimore, in a piece titled “The Most Meaningless Abortion Statistic Ever,” observed, “It [3%] might not be a technically incorrect number, but it is meaningless – to the point of being downright silly – for several reasons. Not the least of which being that Planned Parenthood ‘unbundles’ all of its services…”

In short, the 3% figure is purposefully misleading. A much more instructive measure is to look at the numbers of clients, rather than the number of “services.” Based on data from their own annual report from 2008-2009 (where the 3% figure made its first appearance), nearly one in eight women walking through the door of a Planned Parenthood clinic has an abortion.

These videos continue to highlight the need for legislation such as the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and the Unborn Child Protection from Dismemberment Abortion Act, and has renewed efforts to end Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding. Earlier this month, Senate Democrats blocked a measure (S. 1881), introduced by Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), that would cut off federal funding of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America and its affiliates. Several states, including Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, Utah, and New Hampshire, have moved to curtail state funding of Planned Parenthood affiliates.

“Now is the time for Planned Parenthood to be exposed for what and who they really are,” Tobias said. “They need to be held accountable for their actions. The lives of these little ones are at stake.”

Founded in 1968, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation's oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, NRLC works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.
