National Right to Life: Return Roberts to the US Senate
Kansas Senator Pat Roberts Endorsed for Re-election

WASHINGTON – The National Right to Life Committee, the nation's major pro-life organization, today joined with the Kansans for Life Political Action Committee in issuing a strong endorsement for the re-election of U.S. Senator Pat Roberts.

“During his entire service in the U.S. Senate, Senator Roberts has compiled a 100% pro-life voting record, and he has been a key supporter of every major pro-life initiative,” said Douglas Johnson, National Right to Life legislative director. “Currently, Senator Roberts is a co-sponsor of S.1670, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act – groundbreaking legislation to protect unborn children at 20 weeks, a point by which the unborn child is capable of experiencing great pain when being killed by dismemberment or other late abortion methods.”

Roberts voted against enactment of Obamacare – a law that created a national program of massive federal subsidies for insurance plans that cover abortion, and imposes rationing of lifesaving medical care.

Senator Roberts again demonstrated his pro-life commitment on April 1, 2014,when he introduced the Repeal Rationing in Support of Life Act, which targets the four key rationing components of Obamacare identified in a March 6, 2014, report by the National Right to Life Committee’s Powell Center for Medical Ethics, “The Affordable Care Act and Health Care Access in the United States,” available at www.nrlc.org/communications/healthcarereport.

“Senator Pat Roberts, who has been a tireless campaigner for the right to life, has since 2009 repeatedly taken a leadership role in fighting rationing of life-saving medical treatment, food, and fluids,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “Senator Roberts has consistently hammered against a very dangerous aspect of Obamacare – how it limits the right to use one’s own money to get health coverage for expensive life-saving care. More Americans are now becoming aware of this vital issue."

Earlier this year, Roberts also introduced the Restoring Access to Medication Act, which repeals the provision of Obamacare that limits a patient’s right to purchase over-the-counter products with their own money.

Kansans for Life Executive Director Mary Kay Culp said, “It is vitally important to re-elect a man with the record and seniority of Senator Pat Roberts. Should the Senate be returned to Republican hands this fall, with the prospect of the presidency two years hence, Roberts would be situated as no other Kansas candidate could be to play a key role in ending Obamacare’s brazenly dishonest and ultimately dangerous takeover of America’s health care.”

Involved in every election since Ronald Reagan’s election to the presidency, National Right to Life Political Action Committee (NRL PAC) was formed in 1979 as the political arm of National Right to Life. Founded in 1968, National Right to Life, the federation of 50 state right-to-life affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, is the nation's oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement, NRLC works through legislation and education to protect innocent human life from abortion, infanticide, assisted suicide and euthanasia.
