Doctor Diagnosed in NYC with Ebola; Mass. Officials Continue Preparation and Training

A 33-year-old Doctors Without Borders physician who had recently worked with Ebola victims in Guinea was diagnosed with the deadly virus on Thursday in New York City. He was being treated at Bellevue Hospital, as health officials sought to quarantine his close contacts and trace his movements in the days before he reported developing a fever.

In Massachusetts, state health officials continued preparations across the state, including training of health care workers on proper protocol and use of personal protective equipment.

MMS testified on Beacon Hill about its actions to inform members and clinicians around the world about the challenges presented by the Ebola virus.

Late this week, the MMS, along with the Massachusetts Hospital Association, the Organization of Nurse Leaders of MA-RI, the American Nurses Association Massachusetts and the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, issued a joint statement calling for interprofessional cooperation on battling Ebola.
